KAIØ | Visual Arts
The official platform for the works of KAIØ. This space serves as an extension of a multidisciplinary artist, offering a selection of archival paper prints alongside gallery-wrapped and framed canvas reproductions in a range of dimensions.
My work is an exploration of my inner world, translating the invisible into high-contrast acrylic paintings. By incorporating gold leaf and natural crystals, I lean into a dimensional texture to highlighting the grit and the light of the human experience. These pieces are a form of storytelling that holds space for both the beautiful and the broken, making the intangible visible through texture and shadow.
Wilhelmina
Resolute Protector. Willful Guardian.
Created during a period of profound transition, Wilhelmina is a study of inner conflict and the necessity of protection. Painted upon returning to a city defined by past trauma, the piece captures the desperate comfort found in the familiar when the weight of the world becomes too heavy to carry alone.
Wilhelmina
The composition centers on the tension between two sides of a single psyche. One remains cool and sedated, utilizing smoke as a veil to navigate a detached reality. The other is a desperate force of light, glowing with the heat of an unknown future. I intentionally used the frame to crop the faces, suggesting a form that cannot be contained, while smoke is typically formless and infinite, I chose to represent it trapped and fixed within the borders of the canvas. This inversion of reality serves to deepen the layers of contrast within the narrative.Technical Details: The faces are rendered in high-contrast, bold colors with smooth, realistic shading to create a three-dimensional illusion. In stark opposition, the smoke is executed in flat, solid black and white, incorporated with gold leaf and textured quartz to provide actual physical dimension. The original 36”x40” acrylic and mixed media work is finished in a high-gloss epoxy resin, adding a final tactile element of texture that demands to be seen in person.
Rajah ReviveR
Reviver: A person or thing that brings something back to life, strength, or consciousness.
Born from a moment of total overwhelm, Rajah ReviveR represents a necessary reset. While working on a previous iteration intended to honor my dog, a technical error with an oil pen forced a complete halt. In that moment of frustration, my Great Dane Rajah pushed her weight into my side, instantly grounding me. It was a sign to stop trying to "fix" what wasn't working and instead, stop, breathe and start over to create something new.
Rajah ReviveR
This piece is a reflection of the strength Rajah brought back into my world. While the name is a nod to the tiger-sized companion she has become, the motif leans into the tiger as a totem: an animal defined by solitude, fierce determination, and protective ambition. The background is layered in deep shades of blue to represent the vastness of the sky and ocean, paired with reflective metallic gold to provide the dimensional texture that defines my work. The solid, bold tiger stripes offer the clarity and calm my psyche needed to move forward.Technical Details: A 36”x36” original acrylic and mixed media painting on gallery-wrapped canvas. The work features layered metallic gold and deep blue pigments, finished in a high-gloss epoxy resin to deepen the contrast and seal the mission of the piece.
Flick Off
A study in perspective, movement, and the evolution of sight.
Originally conceived as a 2”x2” sketch during my studies in Interior Design, Flick Off lay dormant in a portfolio for years before resurfacing. Encountering the draft again, the original study in perspective and Gestalt design theory resonated with a new depth. It serves as a reminder that no matter the subject, a shift in perspective can fundamentally alter the entire image and bring a sense of cohesion to the whole.
Flick Off
While much of my work utilizes stark, bold contrast to capture the eye, Flick Off intentionally moves the other way. By blending deep carbon black with solid, dark ultramarine blue, the piece demands a slower engagement. It asks to be looked at closely to be truly seen. Technical Details: A 36”x36” exploration of subtle value and shifting perspective. This original acrylic painting on gallery-wrapped canvas trades high-contrast highlights for a deep, tonal palette of carbon black and ultramarine. Finished in a high-gloss epoxy resin, the work invites the viewer to navigate a space where academic theory meets personal evolution.
